Historic Tower House Project in Canterbury

Tower House project in CanterburyWork has begun on Canterbury s Tower House to make it more accessible to the pubic with modernisation.

The City Council has £646,000 to spend on improving usability so that  Tower House can be available for private hire, such as weddings, and other events and so that it is also still able to be used by the council for civic events.

Tower House is a Grade II listed building located in Canterbury and the Tower is said to have been around since 1600.

Improvements at the Tower House Project in Canterbury

The modernisation of this historic property in Canterbury will include

  • a lift
  • baby changing areas
  • new gates
  • accessible toilets
  • car park entrance
  • garden landscaping
  • lighting
  • improved catering
  • releading of the roof

Just to name some of the work going on to make Tower House in Canterbury open to everyone.

What have Ballman Roofing Contractors been working on at  Tower House Project in Canterbury

  • Removing old lead
  • Insulating the roof on top of the stone-masonry with high density insulation boards
  • Installing new lead-work with t-prin welted joints, dressed mop rolls and welded corners
  • The bays are laid and set out in accordance with lead sheet association guidelines
  • With the use of dressed lead wood core roll details for expansion this will give an attractive and traditional finish.

Tower House was gifted to the city in 1936 by the Williamson family. The family, who still live locally, have been consulted on the plans and have given their approval, saying they are pleased that more people will be able to use the building.
